Abstract

As a new method to promote pro-environmental behaior, we proposed a destruction task in a VR environment, believing that experiences that provide a sense of exhilaration and accomplishment are effective in reducing the psychological burden of environmentally conscious behavior and increasing motivation. We then evaluated the effectiveness of the task. We designed an experience where participants answered a multiple-choice quiz on environmental issues and destroyed the options, adding a satisfying destruction effect when answering correctly to evoke positive emotions such as a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. In the experiment, we measured changes in mood and PEB using the Multiple Mood Scale and PEBT. The results showed improvements in active pleasure and increases in PEBT scores, suggesting that the destructive experience may contribute to the elicitation of positive emotions and the promotion of PEB. Additionally, post-experiment questionnaire indicated high ratings for immersion and satisfaction, demonstrating that this VR task is a feasible intervention method. Going forward, we plan to explore ways to enhance the experience for greater achievement, validate the effects, and assess generalizability. Keywords : Pro-environmental behaivior, Virtual
