Abstract

In recent years, in museums, various efforts have been made to deepen cultural understanding. For example, there are audio guides in multiple languages using dedicated equipment or smartphone applications, and interactive content using tablets. However, to use these services, visitors need to enter the number corresponding to the exhibited item or select the corresponding content. This makes it impossible to use the system when it is not clear what is on display, such as in situations where there are many people in front of an exhibit. In addition, if visitors go around the museum while holding the tablet, collisions due to being distracted by the tablet could occur. To solve these problems, we propose a service that allows visitors to enjoy the museum hands-free. This service consists of a route navigation system that detects the location and direction of the wearer using sensors in the earphones and uses this information to guide the wearer through the museum and an exhibit guide that automatically plays an audio commentary corresponding to the exhibit in front of the wearer’ s line of sight.
