Abstract

Operator cognitive behavior associate with complex process control through man-machine interface is considered as online event-driven problem solving. In order to understand the characteristics of the related human cognitive information process and to develop a methodology for analyzing the relevant psycho-physiological data, bbasic laboratory experiments have been conversational mode were automatically generated by a personal computer with the use of simple state transition model, and during the experiment, the subject by conversational mode were automatically generated was asked to wear eye mark recorder to obtain his eye movement data, and in addition to his verbal protocols, the eye mark recorder data were recorded on video tape recordere. Those subjects¡Ç data were analyzed with respect to (i) types of problem solving strategy,(ii) relationship between difficulty of the task and problem solving strategy, (iii) relations between eye movement characteristics and cognitive process, and (iv) types of the observed human error.
