Abstract

In order to implement the project of high-level radioactive waste (HLW) disposal successfully in Japan, it is important to obtain the understanding of general publics. Aiming at reducing the perception gap between the people engaged in HLW disposal project and the general public, this study deals with the risk communication to enlighten the general public about HLW disposal issue. To carry out risk communication for HLWdisposal, a framework of risk communication method called ¡Érisk communication for high-level radioactive disposal¡É (RIHD) model was reduced by the literature surveys in the field of social psychology. Risk communication system based on RIHD model was developed as a prototype system which makes full use of affective interface, since people¡Çs perception would be heavily influenced by emotion. From the results of experiments, it was found that the general people¡Çs perception to the technical safety of HLW disposal could be improved, through the mutual communication by the prototype system between the general public and those who are involved in the HLW disposal project.
