Abstract

We have started a research project to develop a new system of risk communication using Internet technology in the area of nuclear power generation. Especially, risk communication in a symbiotic society in which people in different positions can coexist with each other is focused on in the project. As the first step, a questionnaire survey was administered to investigate a risk image of both people who engaged in nuclear power business and ordinary citizens, specifically, female citizens living in Tokyo megalopolis. It was found that the difficulties of recruitment of experts and the decrease of morale of employees were perceived as most risky aspects by the former while the influence of accidents on environment and the genetic influence of radioactive waste matter were perceived as most risky by the latter. Relations among questionnaire items were also examined by multivariate analysis to identify major response patterns.
