Abstract

In conjunction with the Kyoto Conference for Prevention of Global Warming (COP3) held in Kyoto in December 1997, the authors developed a Web site intended to provide enlightening and educational information on energy and environmental issues to small and medium scale business, and constructed on the basis of generally recognized and authoritative Web page preparation guidelines. In the interest of evaluating and improving this Web site, they conducted a survey of university students having professional knowledge of Web designs and usability in which they applied a heuristic evaluation method. The survey results and analyses provided insights into the aspects of the Web site requiring improvement, and into the need for publicity and promotion outside the Web. The knowledge and information gained through the surveys served as a basis for the redesogn and reconstruction of the Web site, and as an indication of the need for various further means of advancing activities and developments directed towards a broader, more effective awareness of environmental issues and their resolution.
