Abstract

As against the mass-production, mass-consumption society of the 20th century, the sustainable economic society of the 21st century, if it is to be attainned, will of necessity be a symbiotic society. In this connection, we wish to present our thoughts on symbiosis and concepts of a symbiotic society, and while doing so, study a new image of people living in it, the nature of its corporations, and corporate activities for the optimum utilization of the IT/Information networks. In pursuit of self-sustenance, corporations have tended to look only on the dark side posed by an aging society and energy/environmental problems. In the new symbiotic society instead of attempting to circumvent these problems, it will be necessary for the corporations to develop and employ business strategies to create a network community with a vision to use these challenges as business opportunities and draw up plans to develop new products or businesses.
