Abstract

In this study, a directional information presentation technique has been proposed using vibrotactile stimulation to the head. In order to evaluate the best angle range of the motor vibration and the amount of time necessary for recognizing the direction properly, a prototype navigation system which employs 8 small vibration motors has been developed and two experiments with subjects have been conducted. As the results, it was found that the best angle range of the motor vibration from the viewpoint of accuracy and quickness was ¡Þ¦Ð/32[rad]. And it was also found that at least 4 seconds are necessary to recognize the direction as accurate as without time limit.
